Three reasons that can lead you to learn languages
There are many reasons to learn a language. There are also many more reasons you can find to love what you are learning. Here I will share with you three paths that led me to learn a language.
Your environment
I studied Latin in school. It was not the best experience of my life. I hated it so much! When I was about eighteen, I moved into a house near my university, where the owner was a friend of my parents. She was also an old Sicilian immigrant lady. Her daughter, husband and sons lived next door.
They spoke Italian all day long :’). Sometimes that woman was speaking to me in Italian without paying attention. I’ve started to get a few things and one day, her execrable son-in-law came to visit his family in Belgium and said this to me:
You eat with us almost every day, but you can’t even make a sentence in our language!
Needless to say that I was a little frustrated. Guess who opened a book and started learning Italian? I had hated learning Latin. But I was grateful at the time because it helped me a lot. Another thing that helped me a lot was my native language, French.
